Update on Ball Team!

Hi folks: Our La Manzanilla ball team is coming right along! The kids are eager and really love the game. We seem to be averaging around 25 or so kids every Friday between 4:00 and 6:00 with the practises and/or games starting around 4:30. Pictures below. These kids are just so much fun and are getting so much out of playing. Many arrive early, and help. They line up patiently (most of the time) to get their equipment. They listen attentively to Scotty 's broken espaņol, and they have the sweetest grins when they make any kind of a play.  Their skills are definitely improving!!! The kids are pretty well outfitted now. They have enough gloves and jerseys for two teams. The only really important piece of equipment missing is a catcher's outfit which Tia Richardson is trying to get to La Manzanilla. (If ANYONE knows ANYONE who could be sent the outfit and then bring it down, that would be excellent!!!) The next project we'll need to start is to get the kids shoes. Many play in flip flops or bare feet. If you still haven't left Canada and can see your way clear to bringing a pair of shoes (runners or cleats), that would be excellent! After that, a ball diamond would be nice and a backstop (is that what it's called?) but those are LONG term projects. Reporting in, Your athletic supporters!          |
