TD 8E is now Tropical Storm Hernan. Still no threat to land (except for Soccoro Island several hundred miles west of La Manz.) Predicted to briefly reach Cat 1 hurricane strength by tomorrow. Still heading NW out into the Pacific.
Sherri, here's how tropical cyclones are named, and by whom (since 1977, in the East Pacific anyway, it's the World Meteorological Organization's Regional Association IV Hurricane Committee http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_cyclone_naming
An easier-to-read chart of current and future names: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml#enp , including a link answering "Can I get a storm named after me?": http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/faq.shtml#name
They use "Bret" every 6 years in the Atlantic, but I didn't have anything to do with that choice!
