I got my FM-3 in Ottawa about 10 years ago. Contrary to what the embassy told me, I should have registered it with the local office as soon as I got to Mexico. So a year later, when I went to renew, the fine was 1000 pesos a month. Ultimately, they charged me only 1000 in all and refused a propina . Tulum, Q.R. two years ago--a month and a couple of days late--charged me 2000 pesos, a written character reference and a letter, in Spanish, translated by an official translator, on what contribution I could make to society to justify my being there. I'd say a lot depended on the office. And see D's comment |
