Recycling Program Update

I am awaiting confirmation from Gabriela, our Regidora de Ecología, to attend a meeting with El Tamarindo to try to get the recycling program some necessary funding to replace containers, and secure better collection, etc. Itīs true that our Delegado showed no interest in supporting the program even though it a state of Jalisco mandate. Itīs a tricky political situation right now with the Ejido and the municipality not working together to maintain the program. We should have some new containers coming out soon. Funds are very limited. Itīs also true that individuals have been collecting and selling the plastic on their own. The going price is around $1 peso / k. Itīs been my experience that the majority has gone to China in the past. Thereīs a lot more details, but thatīs a quick update. Tierralegre, A.C., my non-profit organization is still working as a colloborator to keep the program alive through citizen, government and ejido collaboration. This is the intention of Tierralege, A.C. to run and administer the program on its own. Technically, by the new law NORMA 077 which requires all municipalities in the state of Jalisco to recycle, it is the responsibility of the municipality to take charge of the program, but that doesnīt seem to mean much on the ground.
