The kind of Club I have is like the one pictured. When used correctly (as shown) the thieves have to cut the steering wheel at least twice. With this particular model steering wheel they would have to cut the small part twice because there would not be enough flex to get the club off with one cut. Also the handle part of mine is not as long as the one pictured so using it to break the steering lock would be quite difficult. The point David made still applies but now its three cuts to the steering wheel to get it off, not one. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/WNR0/3000/N0162.oap?ck=Search_N0162_-1_-1&pt=N0162&ppt=C0182 I have also read about using a kill switch on the fuel pump which should be simpler to wire up. Also some people taking out a fuse to prevent the car from being started, which is easy to get around but may slow them down enough to foil them. With the kill switch someone has already broken into your car and trashed the ignition switch before finding out it won't start, which leaves you with a car that you can't use either. Better than no car to be sure. I am not a thief but my logic tells me that if I were one I would rather steal a car that did not require my cutting through the steering wheel 3 times, and require buying a new steering wheel to resell it. If I were going to design an effective steering lock I would custom make one for my steering wheel so there was no side play where the hooks go (the one pictured above would be much more effective if it had that feature, but then it would not be universal for many cars) and a plate covering the space between the hooks and out past the wheel a bit. I would have a deep notch in the where the stub of the steering lock to go into. That way the club could not be removed even if the steering wheel were cut multiple times. open the car door then..... figure that out later Maybe make the stub go between the windshield and the roof post....or? plate over the hooks similar to this new style http://sell.lulusoso.com/selling-leads/2992859/New-style-steering-wheel-lock.html Like this crude drawing |
