Posted by June for Activos Gym on November 17, 2015, 2:26 pm
The La Manzanilla Christmas Tree Fiesta at Magnolia’s is still on and we hope you can create and donate a tree or just come to the party again this year. The gym sustained significant damage, the security doors are gone, all the mirrors were shattered and some of the palapa was damaged. Some hardy folks got together last week and cleaned it up and it’s back open to the public. New this year, Ani Mac and Brenda Dempsey will be hosting their yoga classes at the gym. All classes should resume the first of December. Email me at june@visitlamanzanilla.com to sign up and thanks to those of you have already told me you are participating. Rick, Lyle and I will not be there for the party but arrive Dec. 25th for a week. I look forward to seeing you all during our visit! The 9th Annual La Manzanilla Christmas Tree Fiesta at Magnolia’s Kitchen & Drinks All have the opportunity to participate, use your imagination and show off your talents in producing and creating your own unique Christmas tree, wreath or other holiday themed creation. Date: Friday, December 11 If you are donating a decorated item, please have them delivered to Magnolia’s by 3:00pm. Registration Deadline: Monday, December 7. please do not bring anything to Magnolia's prior to the day of the event as we do not have storage for anything. You need to sign up with the tree party girls: June, Nancy or Gabby - and we will do our part to provide great food, drinks and fun! Thanks!!!! lots of great beach driftwood and such to make trees out of this year! | ------------------------Re: 9th Annual La Manzanilla Tree Fiesta- Friday, December 11

At the risk of throwing myself to the sharks once again…and believe me I have learned to pick my issues carefully and then ponder my motives. But when I still have an overwhelming urge to address what could become highly controversal I write on the MB because I simply can't curb my enthusiasm based on the possibly of provoking any of the well meaning folks in LA so here goes.. Maybe this is the year for changing it up to include a broader segment of our community population in the annual benefit. If you are in town you would have to be wearing blinders not to see the extent of the devastation and the struggle to recover is not finished. When so few have so much and so many have so little isn't it time to give back to all our locals in a gesture of compassion and understanding that extends beyond yoga classes. If you haven't arrived yet surely you have been following the plight of old folks and families who's houses are not livable. However…if you feel your cause to be just…at the Xmas party if you can look the server Luz in the eye and tell her why you think it is more important to "fix up" the gym than it is for her to have a roof over herself, her husband and their 2 children….or perhaps you can assuage your guilty conscience by slipping her a few extra pesos…. It rained last night….think about it…. | ------------------------Re: 9th Annual La Manzanilla Tree Fiesta- Friday, December 11

Dear, Dear Becci: No you can't help yourself can you? If you feel so strongly why not use the button on the top of this page to donate to another group I'm part of, VivaLaManzanilla. You've heard of us, right? We are the ones raising money, buying mattresses, roofing materials, building materials, organizing volunteers, accepting and distributing kitchen stables and donations that have come across Mexico to help our Mexican friends and neighbors. To date nearly 18,000USD has come through my paypal account and been transferred to La Manzanilla to help in the rebuilding of homes of our Mexican friends and neighbors. More than 27 families have received significant help from our efforts and there is more to come. Lisa, Paul, Letty, Conrado, Josefina and Enrique are passionate about the work they are doing to make lives better, but they are only a small group of volunteers working as fast as they can. I suppose I could have suggested to the group that the gym receive some of that money. But I believe the priority is roofs, beds and basic needs, and the money donated through VivaLaManzanilla must go to that mission. Now, once you get off our high horse, why don't you drop by Josefina's office and see how you can help? Or make a big tree to donate to the tree part? Please try to part of the solution, not the antagonist to more problems. The later serves no one.

You do not know me June and I would appreciate that before you write in this way again you do it with a degree of respect. If you had been clear in your first email that this fundraiser is a small part of a much larger humanitarian effort perhaps I would have given more thought to the big picture. However and unfortunately I have found the people of LM very insulated from the big picture of Mexico and many clubs or foundations appear to hold their Information and efforts very tightly. My so called high horse rides through many communities and it seems that you would like it to be about me but as I said you do not know me. I only came to this area after living in Mexico since 1980 and I have succeeded in creating a large network of donors and volunteers who depend on me for direction....but apparently you have no need for new blood so to speak. This was evidenced after I brought 45 women (and 2 men) to the foundation luncheon. If anyone had looked around they may have seen a sea of new faces. After also donating an expensive necklace and not even getting a thank you for any of it I thought it must be an oversight but, alas, I think it was something much more... Our group has been funding orphans and old men for a long long time. We assure both generations of the basic needs, milk, soap, Christmas celebrations, a food drive, underwear and yes diapers for all. We have taken our cause to the USA and have many others who pledge support for at least a year and most of them much longer. So you see June when I press a button I am doing it for more than myself..in fact I press it for people who are willing to step outside of their comfort zones and their gated communities because they wish to make a larger impact and they now are trusting me to give them direction here in our community. I am sorry to say that la manzanilla doesn't fit our criteria not because of their being no need but because of the attitude of gringos like you who want to do it themselves and have no desire to extend beyond their own ideas of how it should and could be. Good luck and good bye. | ------------------------Re: 9th Annual La Manzanilla Tree Fiesta- Friday, December 11

Geeesh ....Gated community???? Don't you live in one of the "condos" that was, at one time, "Boca's" first gated community??? Give it a rest...Thank you June and all who makes this one of the happiest events, that so many people & kids look forward to participating in. The money that it raises has benifited the community for the last 8 years...and hopefully it will continue to do so...least I forget...thank you Mary M & Kate B for such a fun idea & running with it. | ------------------------Re: 9th Annual La Manzanilla Tree Fiesta- Friday, December 11

Hola. With so many creative people that show up with these absolutely fantastical arboles de Navidad, I'm wondering if this year, with such special huricane circumstances, someone might even show up with a 'teja' christmas tree. I have the stuff (broken roof tiles) but don't have the stuff it takes to fashion and assemble one. Last year the best I did was put together a traditional one, something at least. Just a thought. Cruz Or maybe we can make this more interesting. I'll give a prize to the creator of the best 'Paricia' debris tree. Any takers? | ------------------------Re: 9th Annual La Manzanilla Tree Fiesta- Friday, December 11

If Becci actually read the Message Board, she would know that there has already been a massive amount of post-hurricane aid, that Helping Hands and La Catalina maintain ongoing programs to benefit the community and that we "gringos" who live in La Manzanilla full-time (and also got battered by Patricia) contribute year-round, in one way or another, to the less fortunate humans and animals of La Manzanilla. I see no reason not to support Activos, as well, and I don't know anyone who lives in a condo. | ------------------------
