big truck route???

Has anyone spoken to the Delagado about all these semi's and heavy equipment and dump trucks that are coursing though our town? I'm sure everyone has been stuck behind these trucks as they try to navigate through the parked cars on both sides of the road There is a huge jam up every day by the primeria school. I'm concerned about los ninos - I heard that one little girl was almost hit. Will it take a death to make the drivers choose another route? With all their heavy equipment, can they not take the highway and then plow a new road to Tamarindo if the existing one isn't passable? Surely the safety of the children of LM are paramount over the saving of a few dollars. I am happy to go to the Delagado although my Spanish is not the best. I am wondering if anyone else is concerned or has more info or has already spoken about the issue - thanks. | ------------------------Re: big truck route???

Hola, Myranda. Good observations. As I recall the plan was that El Tamarindo project would build a road coming from highway 200 that would connect with one of our back roads and that then would go into El Tamarindo the usual back way. This would circumvent our main town road, save our paved streets and not gnarl our already congested seasonal traffic, not to mention the safety issues of school children crossing streets. I believe the road was even started but for some reason the plan was scuddled and how this was accomplished is not known by me. Possibly $. Quien sabe? Also, the question is why doesn't this heavy traffic go on the El Tamarindo entrance road off of Highway 200 around kilometer 7. Is it that the residents there don't want this noisy, dusty, heavy traffic passing by their tranquil existence. So it was sent our way? It sounds a little like how El Tamarindo got our water and then reneged on projects they were supposed to do in exchange. A little slide of hand and oops we end up with the short end, little water and dangerous traffic. Did they say it was a different aquafir (sp) and that workers use this route anyway? Hay que vida? And some questions to ask, I would say. Cruz | ------------------------Re: big truck route???

We were all sold out at some point. The question is who and where to get the answers? If the Ejido has decided that the payoff was large enough, then it is really out of our hands, this is their town. If the Delgado sold out, that is another question entirely. If LaHuerta did the bidding, good luck to anyone who can climb that mountain. We could always call a meeting for all interested parties to be held in front of Bahia Azul at 7:30 some morning. Set up a podium and let those in power answer the questions. About the time the trucks backed up to the crucero I'll bet some answers would be forthcoming. Of course that could be construed as politics and get your ass thrown out of the country too. But once again, somebody took a payoff. Jobs, or cash, or campaign contributions. Who knows, but it does suck. Rojo | ------------------------Re: big truck route???

Red said "We were all sold out at some point" Unfortunate but true. Edit: on a global level "But once again, somebody took a payoff. Jobs, or cash, or campaign contributions. Who knows"...... And when we don't have enough information to make an accurate judgment (which is most of the time) the best action is not to make a wild guess, it is to not judge. "it is judgement that defeats us" 5

From my understanding this is the road that Tamarindo planned on constructing. It comes out right between the two schools, so not sure if it would have been more danger for the kids or not. I think it is good to express concerns to the Delegado but I don't think there is anything he can do about it as the roads in La Manzanilla are not private, they are public. | ------------------------Re: big truck route???

There is absolutely nothing anyone can do about this...get used to it....2 yrs is the projected time to finish the 4 Seasons Project, which by the way it is actually NOT Tamarindo, but they are going thru Tamarindo to get to where the hotel is being built... One thing that is of concern is the pressure these huge trucks and machines are putting on the water lines (fragile as they are here) and also they will be destroying the adoquines which lots of money was spent putting in all this paving stone..only to have it broken up?????? go figure.....money talks and it is the same all over the world unfortunately. You are correct Linda...we went around the peninsula by boat last weekend to see the project...huge would be an understatement...better get used to it people of LM...it’s only going to get worse when they start trucking in gigantic loads of concrete and construction materials. | ------------------------Re: big truck route???

I agree, Linda, money talks. But money seems to talk much louder in some places than others. As to Four Seasons, opinions will vary as to the benefits derived from the hotel's construction and post construction operation. I have not heard that very many local people have been employed on construction crews, but when the hotel is up and running, there should be huge employment prospects for locals. But what of the town itself? What happens to the peace and tranquility? That quaintness that people treasure? The uncrowded beach? Maybe only us foreigners worry about that, maybe the locals don't. Water? Imagine how much water it will take to run that resort. The town's water system is already failing and will continue to do so as the inadequate pvc water mains increasingly fail. This is one problem that gringo donation jars can't solve. | ------------------------PVC pipe and connectors.

With all due respect, all things inoperable can be made operable. Poly Vinyl Chloride aka PVC is one of the strongest materials around, metal pipes rust and corrode. Unfortunately plastic is forever!!! The issue with PVC is the weakest point in the link, connectors! If the proper glue (usually purple) is used the joints should last for decades. The great thing about this discussion is putting it in the forefront..Saludos | ------------------------Re: big truck route???

Doubt the guests from four seasons will over run LM any more than guests in the Punta Mita Four Seasons go to Sayulita. These are very high end all inclusive hotels that have golf, tennis, boutique shopping, pools, spas, fitness facilities, private beaches, rental yachts and 5 star dining. Guests will be picked up and returned to ZLO (or a new) airport. Perhaps they’ll offer vans and tours to LM to see how the natives live but really for what it costs to stay there and what they get for their money it’s hard to imagine a reason to pop over to your little ....albeit quaint....village.

One of the bid truck caught one of telephone cable and rip off telephone post. That's why I do not have Telmex service. Wonder if Telmex knows about the down telephone cable. | ------------------------
