"In fact, according to an ABC News report, of the 5.25 million Americans living in other countries, the vast majority (over 1 million) live in Mexico...."

A majority of 5.25 million is at least one more than 2.625 million. So how does ABC News come up with "over 1 million" being a "vast majority"? I'm skeptical of these numbers anyway. It is often said that the north shore of Lake Chapala has more expats (including Canadians) than any other place in Mexico. Yet the numbers that are given, including the Canadians, Brits, and other non-USAers, are about 15,000 to 17,000. Even if we count all 15,000 as from the USA, which is wrong by about 50%, it would take 67 Lake Chapalas to equal just 1 million. I don't see 67 Lake Chapalas in Mexico, actually more like 120 plus Lake Chapalas. And the number is presented as if these are the people who have moved to Mexico full time, which distorts the truth, IMHO, even more. I would like to know the truth, but who stands to gain from these somewhat off-the-cuff kinds of numbers (the US Embassy, for one, spreads these "statistics")? As Jack Bruce said in song, "It smells effete."
