Is that the same thing as what Javier called plaga, and is a parasitic plant like mistletoe? Javier just cut out the plaga, and then the host tree went on living. It had become a vine in the tree, so he actually pulled it out. I think you would want to keep an eye on it, however, and keep working on getting it out.
