Ops, sorry. I meant to say Clifden (near Westport) Jesse, have you made any connection in San Patricio between that town and the San Patricio Regiment? When I spoke about four years ago, with the parish priest of the church in Melaque which, at that time had amazing murals depicting Patrick banishing the snakes from the awl sod, since painted over,he told me that the town and the church were named simply for St Patrick. But still I mused on the reason why these places were so named, but alas, he did not have an answer. There is talk of a hermit named Patrick (honestly!) inhabiting the cave that still exists behind the Pemex Station, who is believed by some to have been the source of the name. The search continues...... |
