Rain report

I got 0.28" so far this morning, with some more light rain still falling. It's cooling us down nicely, and we've been needing that.

The rain came with a couple hours of heavy thunderstorm action starting around 5AM. There were literally thousands of lightning flashes over the couple hours; sometimes several strokes per second! Luckily they were mostly up in the clouds. I only heard two or three hitting nearby. I think that was the most frequent and sustained lightning I have ever seen!

Soon after the lightning began we started getting strong wind gusts out of the approaching thunderstorm complex. I think they were coming mostly from the east or southeast, and they were gusting up to maybe 40 MPH here at my place.

Then the rain came, but not very heavy. I'll bet other locations nearby got more than I did. No reports from Melaque/Barra on the Tomzap forum.

This was one of those big red blobs as seen on the IR satellite loop ( http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/epac/flash-avn.html ). They appear fairly frequently this time of year, but they rarely hit us directly like this one did. This wasn't part of any organized tropical storm. The breeding grounds are fairly quiet lately.

Here is a screen shot of the loop at 6AM La Manz time (La Manz is located just to the right of the dashed line of longitude (105° west)):

The power never went out at my place: amazing!

Anyone have any wind damage or heavy rain reports?
