Are you in a big hurry or what? Zacatecas is one of the best cities in Mexico to visit as a tourist. I can name some great small botique hotels in the old city (centro) and a really nice european style hostel near the modern art museum. Only problem is the road from Zacatecas to Guadalajara takes about 6 hours to drive it. You wind down hairpin (Mx.54) turns for hours to the valley bottom and then it is about an hour plus climb out of the valley to the northern edge of Guad. where you come out right on the periferico. Other negative stuff is right at the valley bottom is the town of Ixtlahuacan where they found this summer..5 heads stuck up along the roadside with warnings re: cartel killings. Besides that, it is a beautiful drive, no traffic, few trucks. Not really much in the way of Pemex stations or anything between Zacatecas and Guadalajara. \Don |
