papayas

Does everyone reading this board realize how easy it is to grow papayas? I threw seeds all over the yard before I left in May, and when I returned 6 months later, there were several "trees", one of which was about 10 feet high, with at least 20 papayas on it. They took months to ripen, but have been the sweetest fruits I have had all season - really worth waiting for. I am wondering if the ones we get in the tiendas are grown too fast, maybe on depleted soil. I'll be leaving soon, so won't get most of the fruit, but of course Javier and his family will enjoy them. Try it - it's a good way to green up the village, and produce free organic food.
