Living all my life in Washington State I was very surprised when a doctor told me that I had a parasite that is in one of the local rivers. Until that time I had always washed my produce under water only.
A friend of mine has a huge organic farm in Washington. While visiting him one day a couple of dump trucks came and he said we had to leave. These trucks held aminal droppings (sorry don't know what else to call it and not sound gross) and that is what all the Organic farmers use as a natural fertilizer. Needless to say we left as a lot of that stuff would go airborne when they put it on the ground. Water alone will not wash this offer your prodcue.
So wash your veggies and fruit no matter where you are is important. I use a natural product in the US, as well as here, to clean my produc. Since that one happening above, when I was only using water, I have never had a problem again with parasites.
Hope this is of help
