Everyone should ALWAYS use a surge protector and a good one, especially in places prone to lightning, thunder and power failures. Better to spend the money on a good one that comes with insurance if it doesn't work, because, if you get fried, you're going to replace some equipment. I know. It happened to us. Our computers were fine but we lost our TV (not protected) and our hot tub controls ($1000.00 to replace). We use them on our computers and TVs. If you get hit, you'll need to replace the surge protector, because it took the hit, and it's toast. Ours had an alarm that sounded, to let us know it had been hit.
