We lived on Lake Chapala (in San Antonio Tlayacapan) for almost four years before buying Bibi's (Bill English's) place here in La Manzanilla. We still rent our place on the lake, so when the going gets tough we can escape. The real rains on Lake Chapala also happen in September and October. Two years ago this September, 10 days of rain and flooding culminated in a water spout that destroyed much of the lakeside pueblito of San Juan Cosalá. Almost two years later many are still homeless. The government gave them bricks but no cement nor sand to rebuild. After over three years of visiting La Manz (usually to save our Airedale terrier from the cohetes of yet another fiesta) and looking at many properties here, we are happy to be settling down.
