Use of Local Labour

To start a new thread on this topic because I'm not convinced that there is a relationship between robbery and the use of outside labour.

I was taken aback when it was said at a recent town meeting that foreigners are partly to blame for break-ins because we use outside workers who then come back to rob our houses. I see no convincing evidence to support this.

That being said, I do agree that all of us should use local labour whenever possible. As should "inland" Mexicans who also use outside crews.

We built our house with outside labour because we used a builder that employed outside labour. What did we know? We were new to Mexico.

Since then we have employed many local people to do new projects and do ongoing maintenance. We, too, have developed wonderful relationships and now feel part of a great community.

By the way, there is at least one local builder who employs outside crews. Maybe there are not enough skilled locals to carry out large building projects.

If I built another house here I'd display a sign that said "Proudly Built by Skilled Local Labour".
