I'm all for using local labor for all of the reasons listed. It has been proven that a portion of the burglaries committed here are by outsiders (though the meth addicts from Manzanillo who were arrested had nothing to do with labor, local or not). It is also known by the community that there are local elements (sometimes referred to as "outsiders who live in La Manzanilla") who are responsible for a portion of these crimes. Without naming any names, it is a fact that several locals were warned to stay away from a family's place after they were seen "casing" the property. A few days later the family returned home to find their dogs murdered. I don't think that this community is trying to protect anyone from being caught, but I do suspect that an element of intimidation has been introduced. People have been warned pretty clearly not to get too involved.
