As someone in the construction trades, and also building here in La Manz, my personal opinion is that if you want to live here and be a part of the community, not just gringolandia, LEARN the language. It's really not that hard to learn. The labor "pool" is a lot bigger than you think. Many don't speak english, but that's o.k., we're in their country. Also the skill set of said "labor pool" is greater than you think. And yes there is gringo pricing and there are those willing to take advantage of language/cultural differences to their benefit. That being said, I have found that if you treat someone fairly they generally respond in kind. In my opinion it is very important to support our local economy first, as money spent here, circulates here, and we're all better off for it. But that's just my opinion and I'm no expert. |
