Hi Paul,

One way of looking at it is that too much water in the Lagoon is only too much because it floods land which is farmed (accessible) when the Lagoon is open to the sea.

If things were left to the natural order it would progress pretty much the way it has the past two years. It gets full (not too full) and then empties to the sea.

It may also get really full but not empty to the sea which then leaves lots of water for a possible long period of below normal rain fall (like the 7 year drought recently).

Before the 7 year drought they used to intentionally open it to get access to the land which was "lost" to that level of water. It was not a natural event.

Is the goal to let it do the natural order on it's own? In that scenario there is never a too full situation.

Just a thought (poorly expressed)

D
